Muere el presidente del Hertha Berlín a la edad de 43 años

Berlín, Alemania – El presidente del Hertha Berlín, Kay Bernstein, murió este martes a los 43 años, informó el club alemán.

“Todo el club, sus organismos y sus trabajadores, estamos consternados. Toda la familia del Hertha está de duelo y acompañando a los deudos de Kay en esos momentos difíciles”, dice un comunicado del club capitalino, actualmente en la segunda Bundesliga.

Bernstein, que venía del mundo de las barras ultras del Hertha, estaba al frente del club desde verano de 2023.

En 1998 había fundado la barra Harlekins Berlín y en tres ocasiones se le prohibió temporalmente el acceso al estadio.

Su llegada a la presidencia se produjo tras la dimisión de Werner Gegenbauer después de que la temporada 2021/2022 el Hertha evitara el descenso a segunda en el último momento.

En la asamblea del 26 de junio de 2022, Bernstein se impuso por sorpresa a Frank Steffel, excandidato a la alcaldía de Berlín por la Unión Cristianodemócrata (CDU) por 1.670 votos contra 1.280, convirtiéndose en el primer ultra en acceder a la presidencia de un club alemán.

En 2023, con Bernstein de presidente, el Hertha fue colista y no pudo evitar el descenso a la segunda Bundesliga.

La titular de Deportes de la ciudad estado de Berlín, Iris Spranger, expresó sus condolencias por la muerte de Bernstein.

“Estoy consternada por la muerte del presidente del Hertha, Kay Bernstein. Mis pensamientos están ahora con su familia y sus amigos a quienes quiero expresar mis sinceras condolencias”, dijo.

Otros clubes, como el E intracht Frankfurt, el Hamburgo y el Hoffenheim, también han hecho manifestaciones de pésame.
