Miami, EEUU – Luis Suárez fue presentado como el flamante refuerzo del Inter Miami de cara a la temporada 2024 de la MLS, liga a la que el delantero uruguayo pensó en llegar cuando aún militaba en el Barcelona en 2019, un año antes de su salida al Atlético de Madrid.

“Creo que en 2019, 2020 es donde más ganas tenía, pero físicamente me sentía bien para seguir en Europa y por eso voy al Atlético. No se dio la posibilidad, cuando me voy a Gremio empezó a existir esa posibilidad, pero tenía contrato y quería ser profesional.

“Estando amigos y compañeros acá me ilusionó esa chance”, dijo en rueda de prensa después de su primer entrenamiento en el Inter Miami a lado de Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets y Jordi Alba.

El club del sur de Florida publicó en sus redes sociales una imagen de los cuatro amigos. Suárez reconoció que nunca pensó volver a jugar con ellos, pues en algún momento los cuatro soñaron con retirarse en el Barcelona.

“La verdad no me lo imaginaba porque pensaba que Leo iba a terminar su carrera ahí en el Barcelona, Sergio y Jordi también, pero el futbol es eso, muy cambiante, nosotros nos imaginábamos y soñábamos con retirarnos en el Barcelona. El volver a encontrarnos dice mucho de la amistad que tenemos, de lo bien que nos conocemos dentro de la cancha, disfrutar y querer ganar que es el ADN nuestro, tenemos un ADN competitivo”, externó.

A sus 36 años y después de haber logrado una histórica carrera, el Pistolero aún se ve en la selección uruguaya y aseguró que dará lo mejor de sí mismo para hacer goles en el Inter Miami y que en el verano sea convocado por Marcelo Bielsa a la Copa América que se jugará en Estados Unidos.

“Obviamente que uno es jugador de selección y siempre quiere estar, tenía una posibilidad después del Mundial de ir un paso al costado, pero en Brasil me sentía bien físicamente y sentía que podía ayudar a la selección, pero siempre aceptando el rol que te tiene que tocar.

“Sabiendo que se juega aquí (USA) es otro plus, es importante, y después está en el rendimiento que tenga yo dentro de la cancha, el cómo esté físicamente, a nivel de juego, para ayudar. Estará en la decisión del entrenador en que yo pueda aportar, pero siempre se basará en mi rendimiento y no por el nombre que yo tenga”, sentenció.
