La dura lucha de Ronaldo o Iniesta: futbolistas que han sufrido problemas de salud mental

Ciudad de México – El fútbol es uno de los deportes con mayor presión. Siempre dependientes de su rendimiento y de los resultados, están bajo el foco permanente de medios y aficionados. Y esto, al final, puede pasar factura a los jugadores. Algunos de ellos, incluso, han hablado de los problemas de salud mental con los que los ha tocado lidiar durante su carrera. Estos son los casos más conocidos…

ANDRES INIESTA

ue uno de los mejores jugadores de su generación, pero ni siquiera un centrocampista de talla mundial como Andrés Iniesta fue inmune a los problemas de salud mental. Según contó en el podcast ‘The Wild Project’ en 2022, todo empezó después del repentino fallecimiento de su amigo y ex jugador del Espanyol Dani Jarque, a quien dedicó su gol en la final del Mundial de Sudáfrica de 2010.

‘Perdí las ganas de vivir’

“Cuando estaba luchando contra la depresión, el mejor momento del día era cuando tomaba mis pastillas y me iba a la cama. Perdí las ganas de vivir, abrazaba a mi esposa y era como abrazar una almohada”, dijo Iniesta. De hecho, el exjugador del F.C. Barcelona buscó ayuda profesional para superar aquel mal trago: “Sigo yendo a terapia porque necesito arreglarme conmigo mismo”, aseguró.

GUIANLUIGI BUFFON

Gianluigi Buffon también ha sido sincero sobre sus problemas de salud mental, hablando sin tapujos de su lucha contra la depresión mientras estaba en la Juventus. “Durante unos meses, todo perdió sentido. (…) Fue una época muy difícil. Tenía 25 años y estaba en el punto más alto de mi carrera”, dijo en una entrevista a Vanity Fair.

‘Parecía que nadie se preocupaba por mí’

Buffon sentía que lo veían simplemente como un jugador de fútbol. “Parecía que nadie se preocupaba por mí, sólo veían al futbolista. Era como si todo el mundo preguntara por Buffon y nadie por Gigi”, explicó el italiano, que nunca ocultó sus sentimientos. “Nunca tuve miedo de mostrar mis emociones o de llorar. No deberíamos avergonzarnos de hacerlo”, recalcó.

CHRISTIAN PULISIC

El jugador del AC Milan Christian Pulicic también admitió haber sufrido problemas de salud mental, razón por la que buscó ayuda profesional. “Cuando todo depende de ti, puede suponerte mucho. (…) Personalmente, durante este tiempo, contacté a un terapeuta y no es algo de lo que nadie debería avergonzarse”, dijo el estadounidense al canal de YouTube del Chelsea cuando era jugador del conjunto inglés.

‘Hablar de ello puede ayudar mucho’

“Es algo que puede ayudar a hablar sobre cómo te sientes. (…) A veces, simplemente expresar lo que sientes a otra persona puede ayudarte mucho. Es algo que he hecho personalmente y he visto hacer a otras personas. Sacarlo de tu interior y hablar de ello es algo que puede ser de gran ayuda”, aseguró Pulisic.

RONALDO NAZARIO

Ronaldo Nazario fue uno de los mejores, quizás el mejor delantero de la historia del fútbol. Sin embargo, a pesar de todo el dinero y la fama que lo rodearon, el brasileño también vivió sus propios problemas de salud mental después de su exitosa carrera como jugador, por lo que buscó ayuda. “Hoy estoy en terapia. Llevo dos años y medio y me entiendo mucho mejor que antes”, dijo al diario Marca en 2022.

No estaba preparado para la presión

Ronaldo sintió que a su generación le vendría bien un poco más de orientación. “Soy de una generación en la que te lanzaban a la arena y tenías que dar lo mejor de ti sin el más mínimo atisbo de drama. Miro hacia atrás y veo que sí, estuvimos expuestos a una presión mental muy, muy grande y sin ninguna preparación”, comentó.

‘Hoy los jugadores están mucho mejor preparados’

‘O Fenômeno’ cree que se ha mejorado mucho en el fútbol: “Hoy los jugadores están mucho mejor preparados, se les da la atención médica que necesitan para afrontar el día a día y se estudia más a los jugadores: sus perfiles, cómo reaccionan, cómo deben reaccionar…” Y comparaba: “En mi época, lamentablemente, no existía nada de eso”.
